the bookmaking process
Crafting your Bittersweet Book begins by getting to know each other. We’ll start with some phone or online conversations to go over your goals and get ideas for your story. We’ll determine a schedule and the best plan for your photography. I’ll provide you with an action list of things you might need to prepare and some journalling ideas to help you gather content for your book.
My goal is for you to feel relaxed and comfortable being yourselves while you are being photographed. We’ll focus on creating activities you can do together to elicit natural interactions and real emotions, rather than posing. I prefer authentic images to ‘perfect’ ones, so I won’t provide you with clothing suggestions if its not what you’d wear in real life. If you decide to wear your favorite old T-shirt—the one with a stain on the front from some juice box that spilt all over your lap—then that’s alright by me, especially if that stain has story behind it!
Creating your Bittersweet Book is a very personal experience, so its important to me that your voice is the guiding influence behind the story. Throughout the entire process, I’ll be observing and documenting your family with the story in mind, so that I can draft the first version of your story using the images and content we’ve gathered along the way. Then, we’ll work together to refine the book so that it feels just right to you. My goal is to create something deeply meaningful for you in a way that is seemingly effortless and magical.
Once the final book design has been approved, your book will be expertly printed and hand-bound to last for generations. The publishing process can take up to 8 weeks before you will have your Bittersweet Book in your very own hands, but it will be worth the wait!
